Logic in Arithmetic?

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1)
“Figures can’t lie,” said the professor earnestly. “For instance if one can build a house in 12 days, 12 men can build it in one.”
“Yes?” interrupted a student. “Then 288 will build it in one hour, 17.280 in one minute, and 1.036.800 in one second. And I don’t believe they could lay one brick in that time.”
While the professor was still gasping, the smart “ready reckoner” went on:
“Again, if one ship can cross the Atlantic in six days, six ships can cross it in one day.  I don’t believe that either, so where’s the truth in arithmetic?” Then he sat down.
From this story we can learn something seriously about people concerning the faith. Many people are driven by their logical way of thinking.  So everything must be logic. This story is already happened long time ago, and I am very sure that there is gap in the way the student’s thought. But, also the professor did the same wrong way of thinking. Sometimes the mathematical logic can not put on to real life for some condition.
What I want to tell you is that this is the small picture of explanation of faith. We can understand faith by our logical way of thinking. We will have thousands questions about how the miracle happen? How God can do that thing? How can I be healed? and many more questions.
But to think how is not our part, it is God’s part. God will think about it, we should never burden ourselves with any question how.  From the scripture above we learn again today: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrew 11:1).  This is the definition of faith that is not to be quarelled about. We receive it and walk our lives by faith in Christ.
